Vol. II. (ff. 53). ETRUSCAN ANTIQUITIES, mostly in bronze. The majority of these were discovered at Perugia in 1812, and the originals are now at Munich, partly in the Glyptothek and partly in the Antiquarium. Engravings of many of them are given by Inghirami, Monumenti Etruschi, Ser. iii., and C. O. Müller, Denkmale der alien Kunst, plate lix. The drawings by Dodwell are in monotint, some of the original size and sonic reduced. i.-xii. Bronze plates, intended to be attached to chariots, etc. The designs consist of figures of men and animals, such as a boar-hunt (Inghirami, p. xxiv. 2, xxv., Müller no. 297), Gorgon holding two lions by the throat (Inghirami xxiii., Müller 298), deer attacked by lions (Inghirami xxxiii. 2), sphinxes, lions, boars, hippocampi, etc. (Inghirami xxiv. 1, xxvii., xxxii., xxxiii. 1, xxxiv.), an ox-headed man (ib. xxxv.), and woman holding lekyth, with part of another figure in a similar panel above (ib. xvi. 2). ff. 1-18. xiii. Two faces of a triangular candelabrum or small altar, with representations of Hercules wearing a lion's skin and of the so-called Juno Sospita wearing a goat's skin (Inghirami vii., viii., Müller 299). f. 19. xiv.-xvi. Figures of lions, a hippocampus, and a Nereid or mermaid, in the round, intended for ornaments or handles (Inghirami xxviii. 5). ff. 20-22. xvii.-xix. Lions, sphinxes, etc., intended for ornaments to the ends of chariot-poles or other beams (Ingliirami xxii., xxvi., cf. xxvii. 3). ff. 23-25. xx. Head of griffin, intended as fastening for lid of a vase. f. 26. xxi.-xxvi. Handles, pedestals, and ornaments. ff. 27-32. xxvii. A bronze wheel. f. 33. xxviii.
