LETTER-BOOK Of Mildmay Fane, 2nd Earl of Westmoreland, entitled (f. 5) " A Booke of my joint Commission of Lieutenancy with John [Cecil], Earle of Exeter, over the Trained Bands of Horse and Foot within the County of Northampton " ; 1660-1665. It contains copies of Privy Council warrants and letters, with the Lieutenants' replies, instructions from the letter to their Deputies, valuation of estates, charges on the towns of each hundred, etc. At the beginning are :-(a) Copy of warrant " to the High Constable of the Hundred of Orlingbury," co. Northt., for an array; 1 Sept. 1618. f. 1 ;-(b) " A Forme for a Life Guard to attend his Majesty monthly." f. 2. Paper; ff. 75. Folio.
