" THE BRITTISH REBELLION in Heroick Vers, or A short relation of the most remarkable passages happening in our Civil Wars, beginning in the year 1639 to the happy entrance of Charles the Second in sixty inst": an epic poem (of very little merit) iii 3560 lines by " George Cartwright of Fulham." With a dedicatory letter in prose, addressed to Charles II. In two Parts, the first ending with the death of Charles I. Apparently autograph. In the margins are numerous elucidatory notes. Cartwright was author of ne Heroick Lover, or The Infanta of Spain, a comedy, dedicated to Charles ff., 1661, at the end of which are printed other verses by him, all of a loyal character. The present volume also includes.- 1. Verses " upon the deplorable fire at London," 2 Sept. 1666, beg. " Poor London, when in flames I saw thee fly." f. 57.
2. " Charles the second to his revolted subjects of England ; in prose, being a speech supposed to be made by Charles on his restoration, beg. " Before I shall receive your oath of fidelity." f. 58.
3. " The speech of Thomas [Wentworth] Earl of Strafford, intended to be spoken the day he was beheaded, but being interrupted he delivered it to Sir George Wentworth his brother, from whose originall coppy vnder the Earls own hand it is word for word transcribed," etc., beg. " People of my native country , I wish my own or your charity." f. 64 b. Paper; ff. 65. Quarto.
