Fontanini Letter-Books. Vol. i. Letters of Giusto Fontanini to Domenico Passionei; 23 Aug. 1721 - 27 Oct. 1725. Italian and Latin. Imperfect. Inc. (f. 1) 'Roma 23 Agosto 1721 / Monsignor mio Carissimo ricevo la vostra dei 18 e godo molto', expl. (f. 320v) '27 ottobre 1725 / Dalla vostra de 13 sento la risoluzione ... onde ora potrete starvene contento', with following catchwords 'Roma 3 novembre [1725]' suggesting the loss of subsequent leaves. Including (ff. 121v-124) an inventory of Cardinal Passionei's furniture in Fontanini's apartment in Piazza Barberini, dated 10 Oct. 1722. Also followed (ff. 321-323, 324: originally back flyleaves) by three additional letters dated 1 - 29 Dec. 1725, written by cursive hand (c). Marefoschi's armorial bookplate on front pastedown, with shelfmark '270' in black ink.
Paper; ff. 324+iv. Old foliation in ink '1-172', hand (a), and '173-176', hand (b); modern foliation in pencil follows. 264 x 200mm. Two main hands: - (a) ff. 1-172; - (b) ff. 172-320v. Cursive hand (c) for ff. 321-324 and marginalia.
Bindings ITALIAN: Full vellum: mid 18th cent.
