UBALDINI LETTER-BOOKS. VOL. VII. Dispatches and letters of Ubaldini to Cardinal Borghese and others; 1615-1616. Italian and Latin. Copies, after 1621. Imperfect. The MS. was probably copied after 1621, as the headings to the letters addressed to Giovanni Francesco Guidi del Bagno, vice-legate to Avignone, mention him as the Archbishop of Patras (passim), a title that he received only in 1621. Title by a later hand (f. 1) 'Lettere di Monsignor Ubaldini nunzio in Francia al Signor Cardinale Borghese, e da ministri della Santa Sede nell'anno 1615. 1616'. The MS. belonged to the same set of volumes as Add. 8723, 8724. Armorial bookplate of the Hon. Frederick North, later 5th Earl of Guilford, with shelfmark 'L/19/E' (front pastedown).

Gennaro 1615. / Comparso spontaneamente da fra' Giacomo Ferrier alias della Valle Apostata dell'ordine di S. Domenico', expl. (ff. 347v-348v) 'Al Signor Cardinale Belarmino li 29 detto [i.e. 29 Nov. 1616] ... fortuna opererà forsi più di quella ha potuto succedere, essendo Io qui'. Includes letters to Guido Bentivoglio, nuncio to the Flanders and Ubaldini's successor as nuncio to France.

Paper; ff. 350+ii, plus 12 interleaved unfoliated blanks after f. 84. Missing leaves after f. 84. Modern foliation in pencil 1-350 (followed here), omitting no. 101, omitting one leaf after f. 185. 279 x 208mm. Horizontal catchwords on each leaf. One Italian hand.
