Title (f. ii) 'Lettere', inc. (f. 7) 'Molt'Illustre e Reverendissimo Signor, come fratello. Dall'aggiunta copia di scrittura ... Roma 29 novembre 1631 / Di Vostra Signoria / Come fratello affezionatissimo / Il Card. Barberino', expl. (f. 448) 'dar rimedio dalla Patria per non partir questo danno' (see Nuntiaturberichte, op.cit., vol. 3, pp. 204-205, vol. 4 pp. 1-342 passim). First two dispatches are duplicates of originals dated 29 Nov. 1631 (see Add. 8767, ff. 234 and 238); dispatches for the year 1633 on ff. 13-241v, for the year 1634 on ff. 242-439; at the end (ff. 440-446) four letters, dated 31 March - 25 Aug. 1635. Including original attachments to the dispatches, among which: - (a) ff. 8-9, copy of attachment to dispatch of 29 Nov. 1631 (original dispatch and attachment in Add. 8767, ff. 238-240), in Spanish; - (b) ff. 257, 357, 380, 390-391, lists of matrimonial dispensations from the Papal Curia, in Latin, n.d.; - (c) f. 303, a paper regarding the Jubilee promulgated by Urban VIII in 1634; - (d) f. 447, copy of a letter from Carafa to Cardinal Francesco Barberini, 21 July 1635. Old table of contents (ff. 1-6) by a later hand. Old shelfmark in ink 'X/v/14' in top centre of first old front flyleaf (f. i). '526' in pencil in top right corner of same flyleaf (f. i).
Paper; ff. 448+xi, plus 31 unfoliated interleaved blanks throughout (almost all following dispatches in cipher). Old foliation in ink '1-240' (ff. 7-446), counting only text and cipher pages. 266 x 205mm. Four scribes, one identifiable with Camillo Gramineo (ff. 171-177 and passim); summaries of contents at back of dispatches in Carafa's hand. With Barberini's papered seals, passim.
