The manuscript is the second volume of two. The first volume is now Harley MS 3814 A.
A prayer book in Latin with rubrics in Italian.
Includes: Seven Penitential Psalms with litanies (ff. 1r-20v), prayers to various saints (ff. 21r-69r), devotional texts on ten commandments, seven deadly sins, three theological virtues, four cardinal virtues, seven virtues and seven sins, etc. in Italian (ff. 70r-120r); Little Hours of the Cross, imperfect (ff. 120r-122v).
Decoration:
2 large initials in gold and colours decorated with 'white vine scrolls': 'D'(omine), at the beginning of the Penitential Psalms (f. 1r), and 'Q'(ui) at the beginning of the prayers (f. 21r); and 1 smaller initial 'D'(eus) in gold and colours encircling a crown, at the beginning of the office to the crown of the Virgin (f. 25r).

Acquired as one item, Harley MS 3814, now divided into two volumes as Harley MS 3814A and Harley MS 3814B.
The Harley Collection, formed by Robert Harley (b. 1661, d. 1724), 1st earl of Oxford and Mortimer, politician, and Edward Harley (b. 1689, d. 1741), 2nd earl of Oxford and Mortimer, book collector and patron of the arts, inscribed possibly by Edward Harley ‘Janu. 1728/9’ (f. [ii]).
Edward Harley bequeathed the library to his widow, Henrietta, née Cavendish Holles (b. 1694, d. 1755) during her lifetime and thereafter to their daughter, Margaret Cavendish Bentinck (b. 1715, d. 1785), duchess of Portland; the manuscripts were sold by the Countess and the Duchess in 1753 to the nation for £10,000 (a fraction of their contemporary value) under the Act of Parliament that also established the British Museum; the Harley manuscripts form one of the foundation collections of the British Library.
