HOPKINS PAPERS. Vol. I (ff. 142). Letters to Thomas Hopkins, chiefly as Under Secretary to Charles Spencer, 3rd Earl of Sunderland, Secretary of State from 1706 to 1710; 1698-1710. Including a few 19th-cent. copies and a few drafts by Hopkins on Sunderland's behalf. Partly French. Including several letters from Sunderland and his wife, and other members of the Whig Junto. Although most of the letters are addressed to Hopkins in his official capacity, those from the Whig politicians and diplomatists who were fellow members of the Kit Cat Club are informal or semi-personal in nature.
