1. PAPERS relating to an expedition of an English fleet against the Spanish settlements of South America, in 1671. They comprise copies of letters of [Pedro Antonio Fernandez de Castro], Conde de Lemos, Viceroy of Peru, on the occupation of the port of Valdivia, in Chile, by the English; a copy of a declaration made by Carlos Enrique Clerque, Lieut.-Governor of Valdivia, relative to the propositions made in 1663 to Charles II. of England by the Company of Commerce of England; and other papers. Spanish, with English endorsements, ff. 5-31.
2. Copy of a letter from Father Domingo Alvarez, Proctor-General of the Court, of the order of St. Francis, to the Commissary-General, giving an account of the destruction of Lima and other places by an earthquake; dat. Lima, 29 Oct. 1687. Span. This paper is endorsed by James, Duke of York, afterwards James II., "Relation of the destruction of Lima and other towns in Perue." f. 32.
