O. Sir John Percival, 5th Bart., 1st Earl of Egmont (1733): Letter to his uncle Sir Robert Southwell; Cambridge, 31 July 1701. This mentions a transcript lately completed for Southwell’s use by ‘my Cosen [William] Wogan’, then at Trinity College, of Sir Matthew Hale’s unpublished manuscript ‘Analysis of the Law’. In 1711 the original belonged apparently to Robert Harley, 1st Earl of Oxford, and the text was printed in 1713 as The history and analysis of the common law of England. Other copies survive in MSS Hargrave 140 and Harley 711, ff. 1-371. See also Perceval’s letter to Southwell from Norwich, 23 July 1701, in Add. 75000 B. Purchased from J. L. M. Gulley, September 2002.
Paper: ff. 53-54v. Red wax armorial seal.
