Q. Four letters of Anthony Ashley Cooper, Seventh Earl of Shaftesbury (b.1801, d.1885). Three are addressed to Henry Rayner on the subject of a bill proposed by the Lord Chancellor relating to the mentally ill, and particularly objecting to the suggestion that Justices of the Peace should be allowed to put aside the opinion of medical experts; 1885. The fourth letter is addressed to General Buckley; 30 March 1872. Purchased from Roy Davids in 2003.
