2. Address on the cotton famine and distress in Lancashire and Cheshire, delivered at Chester, 27 Dec. 1862. f. 55.
3. Translations, in trochaic verse, of the Iliad, book i and parts of books ii, iii, xx, xxiv, and of the Odyssey, book i, together with an introduction dated Jan. 1863 (f. 120 b) and notes ; prepared for press but apparently unpublished. The translation of the Iliad, book i had, however, already been published in Translations by Lord Lyttelton and . . . W. E. Gladstone (1861). The MS. contains notes by Lord Lyttelton (ff. 122-146 passim) and is followed (f. 188) by rough drafts, etc. f. 111.
4. Valedictory address to Edinburgh University, delivered 3 Nov. 1865, and published, with notes (ff. 371-380), later in the year; reprinted in Gleanings, vii, p. 31. Followed (f. 381) by drafts. f. 232.
