A codex of various texts all relating to the lives of saints, martyrs and bishops of various Eastern churches. The codex contains biographies, hagiographies, anecdotes and accounts of over 80 different individuals.
The colophon of the codex (f. 452v) contains two notes, the first of which is by Michael the Great, Patriarch of Antakya (1478-1511 AG), stating that the manuscript was written at the expense of the Deacon Ṣalíbā of Dayrā d-Bar Ṣaumā at Melitene (Malatya, Turkey), to be deposited in the library of the monastery. This note is dated 1508 AG (1197 CE). The second note identifies the copyist of the manuscript as Monk Yūsuf of Dayrā d-Abú Galib, son of the paternal aunt of Deacon Ṣalíbā. In between these two notes is a short prayer for the monk who bound the volume.
The manuscript contains occasional marginalia, including a note on f. 175r about the "trial of vellum and writing" and one on f. 424v regarding "bad vellum". A reader by the name of Yuḥanan recorded his name on f. 259r. Folio 11r also contains considerable marginal text in the same hand as that of the copyist.
The vellum of the work is stained by water or ink and torn throughout various parts of the work. Quire alep is now missing, and there are a considerable number of sections of the text that are now deficient. Some folios at the start of the work exhibit considerable loss of ink.
