Qur’ān, in Arabic; a copy from Java.
Contents: ff.1v-200r: text of the Quran, ends with the repetition of the S. al-Fatihah.
Text frames are triple-ruled black lines. Verse markers are red circles with a black dot in the middle, 6 mm diameter. Surah headings are in red ink, often with multiple knotted ta marbuta.
Marginalia: juz' are marked with semicircles in black ink on the outer vertical text frames of both facing pages, inscribed within in red ink: [right page] al-juz’ al-... / [left page] min al-Qur’ān al-‘azīm, and the start of the juz’ is marked in the text with three vertically-stacked red circles or a decorated circle.
Ruku' are marked with a pyramidal construction of parallel lines alternately in red and black, surmounted by a finial in black, above an elaborate 'ayn in red with two horizontal flourishes and the ruku' number.

Annotations: f.[i]v: (in brown pen) A religious work in the Pegon.; (in pencil) It is a copy of the Coran, in Arabic written in Java.

200 ff.; 30 x 21 cm. Burnished Javanese paper (dluwang), in excellent condition. 17 lines per page; black ink; in a neat, fairly upright, vigorous hand. Original dark brown full leather Islamic binding with flap, fastened with a metal clasp. Front and back boards have a series of concentric bands with geometric motifs enclosing a rectangular panel with central medallion and corner pieces.
