- Title:
- Diary of Sultan Ahmad al-Salih of Bone, 1775 to 1795
- Scope & Content:
-
On f.2r a pencilled note, 'Personal diaries of the Rajah of Bone, 1774-1814. 4 vols. [Add.] 12354-12356', but the series also includes Add. 12357 and Add. 12350. Written in Bugis.
From the notes it is clear that the Arumpone (sultan) was the keeper of the diary; in the first half of 1775 he is still heir to the throne. On f.7r he speaks of the illness of the old king Matinroe riMalimongeng (24-25 Feb. AD 1775) and on f.9r he mentions his death (5 June 1775) and says that he himself was appointed successor. The MS also contains (ff.156v-170r) an astronomical, meteorological, and agricultural calendar. Besides the diary notes, there are also a great variety of notes on private, family, and state affairs. In one of them (f.5v) Ahmad al-Salih notes the day of his birth as 11 Ram. AH 1170 (30 May AD 1757) and his name as Ahmad La Tenritappa To Appaliwang. Among the other notes are:

A Makasarese letter from the Governor (f.191).
