Fragment of a Buginese translation or version of the Malay Hikayat Muhammad Hanafiah.
The story (ff. 1r.-45r.) begins with Ali's expedition against the infidels, the conquest of the country of Parĕsi, the death of the Prophet, and Husain's war against Yazïd (f. 13r.). On f. 24r. is mentioned Muhammad Hanafiah, son of Sahĕmarĕdang Ali Morĕtala (Shāhi Mardān 'Alī al-Murtaḍā). At the end Muhammad Hanafiah assembles his relatives and announces his intention to attack Damĕse' (Damascus) after having visited the tomb of the Prophet in Madinah.
On ff. 45r-47r., teachings given by the Prophet to Ali (cf. Add. 12367, ff. 122v.-126r.); in this section all the proper names are given in Arabic script. On f. 47v., a short love-poem in Arabic with interlinear Buginese translation. (Upside down).On ff. 48r-49v., numerous examples of calligraphic letter headings, some in black and red ink, mostly variations on the formula Qawluhu al-haqq. On f. 49v there are also sketches of coiled snakes and some foliate motifs.
