Add MS 12367

Collection of mystical treatises, teachings, and sayings of well-known mystics in Arabic, Makasarese, and Buginese.

A: ff. 4v.-28r. Ar-Risāla al-mubāraka, by Shaikh Abu'l Fatḥ Abū Yaḥya 'Abd al-Baṣīr aḍ-Ḍarīrī al-Khalwatĩ ar-Raffanī. Finished on a Thursday evening at the beginning of Safar A.H. 1126 [Feb. 1714]. Arabic text with Buginese translation. The beginning of the Arabic text is apparently missing; the author's name is found at the beginning of the translation. The author is known in Celebes as Tuang Rappĕng (the venerated Arab in Rappĕng); he arrived in Celebes on 2 March 1678 and he died in Rappĕng on 5 May 1723.

B: ff. 29r.-64r. Bahjat at-tanwīr fī bayān fawā'id al-lugha allatī taẓharu min dhawq al-‘ārif billāh, by the same author as A. Dated Wednesday Jum. I A.H. 1126 [16 May 1714], but another date is also given: Monday Rabī' I. Composed at the request of Fakhr ad-Dīn 'Abd al-Jalīl, Sultan of Goa (lived A.D. 1652-1709, reigned 1677-1709). Arabic text with Buginese translation.

C: ff. 91r., 90v., 91v.-93r. Buginese kitāb sent by the Makasar saint al-Hājj Yūsuf at-Tāj al-Khalwatĩ (see Cense, 1950) to Sultan 'Abd al-Jalīl of Goa (cf. B above), Shaikhu marajae (the great shaikh, i.e. Ibn 'Arabī) and his hook Bayān are quoted.

D: ff. 69v.-71v. Buginese fragment beginning, ‘This is a mas’ala made by Shaikh 'Umar Bā Maḥṣūn in the work Risālat al-Q . . . srī [ ?]'. This Arab shaikh is better known in Celebes as Tuang riDima (the venerated Arab from Bima); he lived from A.D. 1637 to 1694.

E: ff. 185v.-186v. A list in Buginese of thirty-five of the most famous teachers of Shaikh Yūsuf at-Tāj al-Khalwatī, consisting mostly of their names (in Arabic script). They come from various countries, and the list is of great importance for an understanding of the influences upon the development of mystical ideas in Indonesia.

F: ff. 73-85v., 114r.-121v., 184r.-126v. Collection of hadith, hadith kudsī, and sayings of famous mystics and learned men. Arabic texts alternating with Buginese translations, on ff. 184r.-126v., a work on 40 hadith, with an introduction and the numbering of the hadith in Arabic, but Buginese text; ending abruptly in the 33rd hadith.

G: ff. 122v.-126r. Teachings of the Prophet to 'Alī. Buginese, with Arabic introduction.

H: ff. 104v.-114v. Text on dogmatics in Arabic with Buginese translation.

I: ff. 89v.-90r., 189r.-187r. On Tuang Rappĕng. Buginese.

J: ff. 93v.-100v. Teachings given by God to the Ghawth al-A'ẓam. Buginese.

K: ff. 1-3v., 28v., 64v.-65v., 68r.-69r., 72r., 72v.-73r., 86r.-87v., 88r., 88v., 89r., 100v.-101v., 101v.-102v., 103, 114r.-121v. Several religious, mostly mystical, tracts and teachings, mostly in Arabic with Buginese translations, on f. 88v. a few lines from Nur ad-Dīn ar-Rānīrī's Asrār al-insān.
