PORTLAND PAPERS. Vol. DVIII (29/58). Rental of Titchfield Abbey; late 14th cent.-1567. Latin. The rental (ff. 1-106v), evidences (ff. 106v-118v) and alphabetical table of the contents of both (ff. 119-120v) are written in hands of the late 14th cent. A few additions (f. 120v) continue to 1480-1481. Also including notes dated 1559-1567 relating to members of the Wriothesley family, Earls of Southampton, then owners of the site of the abbey. Press-mark of Titchfield Abbey 'P.XI' in the lower border, f. 1, as recorded in Add. 70507, f. 30. Ex-libris of Titchfield Abbey with anathema, ff. 1v-2.
Vellum (except ff. v, 121-125); ff. v+125. 310 x 210mm. Text block: 225 x 150mm. Written in 27 lines to a page (ff. 1-40v) and 36 lines (ff. 41-120v). Contemporary binding of sheepskin over wooden boards, with sheepskin chemise including fragments of red beading, also one thong and the stub of a second.
