PORTLAND PAPERS. Vol. DXII (29/60). Chartulary of Sir Henry Pierrepont, of Holme Pierrepont, co. Nott.; 1482. Latin. The cartulary was compiled by Sir Henry's chaplain Thomas Wyse and comprises copies of 13th-15th-cent. deeds relating to lands in cos. Nott., Derby and York. Bodleian Library, Dodsworth MS. 108, ff. 91-106 contains extracts. Calligraphically written running titles and initials. See Davis, op. cit., p. 152, No. 1308. Owned by Henry Pierrepont, 2nd Earl of Kingston-upon-Hull and Marquess of Dorchester. Formerly Welbeck Abbey MS. 67.C.11.
Vellum; ff. vii+317. 435 x 300mm. Text block: 315 x 210mm (ff. 1-28), 295 x 215mm (ff. 29-317). Written in 60 lines to a page (ff. 1-28) and 47 lines (ff. 29-317). Contemporary binding of sheepskin over wooden boards, with sheepskin chemise, two thongs and four metal bosses on each cover.
