Discourse by George North (fl. 1561–1581), translator, titled ‘A brief discourse of rebellion and Rebells, wherein is showyd, the treasur[e] that Traytors in the execution of theyr treason, by tym attayne to’. Part of the Portland Papers (Add MSS 70001-70523).
With a dedication to Sir Roger North, second Baron North (1531–1600), nobleman and administrator. A reference to the government of Queen Elizabeth I as being ‘by 17 years’ continuance’ (f. 57r) dates the work to 1575-1576.

ff. 5r-8v: Dedication ‘To the right Honorable Sir Roger North Knyght Lorde North Baron of Cartledg and High Stuard of the Dutchie’, i.e. Sir Roger North, second Baron North (1531–1600). Signed ‘Geor: North’.
ff. 9r-61r: Discourse, titled ‘A brief discourse of rebellion and Rebells, wherein is showyd, the treasur[e] that Traytors in the execution of theyr treason, by tym attayne to’.
Including (ff. 50r-51r) a poem of fifty-two lines titled ‘Owyn Glendor’; a poem of fifty-eight lines titled ‘Jacke Cade’ (ff. 51r-53r); and a poem of seventy-six lines titled ‘The Black Smythe’, i.e. Michael Joseph, one of the leaders in the Cornish rebellion of 1497 (ff. 53r-55r). With a eulogy to Queen Elizabeth I (ff. 56v-61r).
