- Scope & Content:
-
Transcripts of parliamentary rolls kept in the Tower of London from the time of King Edward IV, compiled by Simonds d'Ewes.
Title page: ‘Transcripta nonnulla ex Rotulis Parliamenti in Arce Londonensi repositis, De Tempore Regis E[dwardi] IV. viz. ab a[nno] 1o Regis ejusdem, usque ad Parliamentum tentum a[nno] 22o Regni sui. In quibus, etsi plurima sive inscitia sive incuria librariorum perperam et vitiose exarantur, (uti in omnibus pene tum antiquis tum recentioribus Libris MS. acciderit) idoneus tamen id facile lector subolebit, et emendare potis erit.’(Translation: ‘A paper book in folio with the following title: Several transcripts from the Parliament Rolls kept in the Tower of London from the time of Edward IV, viz from the first year to the 22nd year of his reign. Though many things in them are written incorrectly and defectively, through the stupidity and carelessness of the scribes (as may happen in almost all most manuscript books, whether ancient or more recent), the competent reader will easily detect and be able to correct them’)
The volume has a similar title page to Harley MS 16
Transcripts in Ralph Starkey's hand, but D'Ewes has added running titles and folio numbers and has devised the title page on f. 1*.
An additional folio is pasted on at folio 258 and folded to fit.
