- Mercurius Gallobelgicus, Tome 6, 1604-1606, translated into English
- Scope & Content:
-
Manuscript volume containing an English translation of ‘The 6th Tome of the continued historicall narration of things doen in France and the Netherlands chiefly; as also in Spaine, Italy, England, Germany, Hungarie, Transylvania etc.’ This volume contains the first, second, third, and fourth books.
Mercurius Gallobelgicus was a printed periodical, published semi-annually, in Latin. The first edition was published in Cologne in 1592 by Michael ab Isselt. After his death in 1603, two distinct continuations of the Mercurius Gallobelgicus were started, one in Cologne and one in Frankfurt. The Frankfurt continuation, known as Mercurius Gallobelgicus succenturiati, was compiled by Gotardus Arthus Dantiscanus [Gotthard Arthus]. This volume is a translation of the Frankfurt continuation.
Printed illustrations and maps have been inserted throughout, seemingly taken from the original publication and inserted in the same position in this translation.
At the back of the volume is a table of contents.
