ff. 1*v-35v: ‘Leicestrensem Rempublicane: Anno Dom: 1584...Leycesters Common wealth...1615’. Catholic recusant political tract, published 1584, reprinted 1641, attributed to Robert Persons.
f. 35v: ‘A godly and profitable meditation taken out of the 20th chapter of Jobe’.
ff. 36-41: ‘The Earle of Essex his Appollogie to Mr Anthony Bacon; Against those wh[i]ch falsely & maliciously tax him to be the onely hinderance of the Peace & quiet of his Country’. Published as An Apologie of the Earle of Essex in 1600, immediately suppressed, and reprinted in 1603.
ff. 42- 61v: ‘A briefe view of philosophy compiled in certaine positions, and as it were, aphorismes, for the private helpe of memory, and propounded for disputation in the University of Argentinum [Strasbourg]. In the hearing & determination of Johannes Ludovicus Haventretirus, Doctor and Professor Medicine and Philosophy, Joannes Deczius the author then answering … Imprinted at Argentoratum by Anthonius Bortranius, Anno Do[mini] 1595’. Translation of a thesis by Johannes Deczius (János Baranyai Decsi), Synopsis philosophiae in privatum memoriae subsidium thesibus et velut aphorismis quibusdam comprehensa, & ad disputandum proposita in academia Argentinensi. Manuscript dated 13 November 1615 (f. 61v).
ff. 61v-71r: ‘An exortation to her Ma[jes]tie by Mr PW’ [Peter Wentworth’s exhortation to Queen Elizabeth I to declare her successor, published as A pithie exhortation to her Maiestie for establishing her successor to the crowne (1598).
f. 71: ‘Mr P.W. his Judgment’. Peter Wentworth’s judgement on Dolman’s book.
ff. 72-77: ‘The Forerunner of Reveng upon the Duke of Buckingham, for poysoning the most potent Monarch James, of happy memory King of Great Brittaine, &c. & the Lo[rd] Marques Hamilton, & others of the Nobility: discovered by Mr Geo[rge] Eglisham, one of K. James his Phisicians for his Majesties person above the space of ten years. Franckford, 1626’. Manuscript dated 1640 (f. 77).

The Harley Collection, formed by Robert Harley (1661-1724), 1st earl of Oxford and Mortimer, politician, and Edward Harley (1689-1741), 2nd earl of Oxford and Mortimer, book collector and patron of the arts.
Edward Harley bequeathed the library to his widow, Henrietta Cavendish, née Holles (1694-1755) during her lifetime and thereafter to their daughter, Margaret Cavendish Bentinck (1715-1785), duchess of Portland; the manuscripts were sold by the Countess and the Duchess in 1753 to the nation for £10,000 under the Act of Parliament that also established the British Museum; the Harley manuscripts form one of the foundation collections of the British Library.
