ff. 1r-122r: Excerpts from the Chronicle of John of Worcester (703-1101) or Chronicon ex chronicis by John of Worcester (fl. 1095–1140), a monk of Worcester Priory; with additional extracts annotated by Laurence Nowell (d. 1576), Archdeacon of Derby and then Dean of Lichfield.
The manuscript contains a few later additions:
f. 1r: A title-page: ‘Cronica Asserij Menivensis cum additionibus’; added in the late 16th or early 17th century.
f. 1r: A note by Sir Simonds D'Ewes: 'Maiorem partem manu Johannis Lelandi scripta'.
ff. 1r, 121r: Inscription sby James Ussher (b. 1581, d. 1656), Archbishop of Armagh, who borrowed the manuscript from Sir Simonds D'Ewes in 1641/2, including a correction of Sir Simonds D'Ewes note on f. 1r in which he changed the name of 'Johannis Lelandi' to 'Laurentij Noelli' (see Watson, The Library of Sir Simonds D'Ewes (1966), p. 311 [M.32]. ).
f. 2v: A note on the text by William Lambarde (b. 1536, d. 1601), antiquary and lawyer, that the exemplar is in the hands of the administrators of ‘Dr Wotton’ [probably Nicholas Wotton (d. 1567), Dean of Canterbury]; copied by Laurence Nowell (d. 1576).

Dimensions: 205 x 155 mm.
Foliation: ff. 100* + 122 (+ 3 unfoliated paper flyleaves at the beginning + 3 at the end); each leaf has been mounted onto a paper guard; and has a paper strip attached to its right margin.
Script: 16th-century script. The hand which has written ff. 30-63 can also be identified in Harley MS 357, ff. 18-99, and Harley MS 359, ff. 71-103, 126-216 (see Watson, The Library of Sir Simonds D'Ewes (1966), p. 311 [M.32].

Sir Simonds D’Ewes (b. 1602, d. 1650), 1st baronet, diarist, antiquary, and friend of Sir Robert Cotton; his number ‘24’ on f. 3r; his additions on f. 1r: ‘Maiorem partem manu Johannis Lelandi scripta’; recorded in his catalogues as M.34 (see Watson, The Library of Sir Simonds D'Ewes (1966), Wright, Fontes Harleiani (1972), p. 131).
Sir Simonds D’Ewes (d. 1722), 3rd baronet and grandson of the former: inherited and later sold the D’Ewes library to Robert Harley on 4 October 1705 for £450.
The Harley Collection, formed by Robert Harley (b. 1661, d. 1724), 1st earl of Oxford and Mortimer, politician, and Edward Harley (b. 1689, d. 1741), 2nd earl of Oxford and Mortimer, book collector and patron of the arts.
Edward Harley bequeathed the library to his widow, Henrietta Cavendish, née Holles (b. 1694, d. 1755) during her lifetime and thereafter to their daughter, Margaret Cavendish Bentinck (b. 1715, d. 1785), duchess of Portland; the manuscripts were sold by the Countess and the Duchess in 1753 to the nation for £10,000 (a fraction of their contemporary value) under the Act of Parliament that also established the British Museum; the Harley manuscripts form one of the foundation collections of the British Library.
