ff. 1r-206v: Homilies on the Epistles and Gospels for the liturgical year, including sermons from Hrabanus Maurus, Homiliae in euangelia et epistolas.
The manuscript contains a few additions:
ff. 1*recto-1*verso: Leaf from a Continental liturgical manuscript with texts for the feasts of St Ignatius, St John Chrysostom, and St Agnes highlighted with large initials in green or red; written in the the 1st half of the 12th century.
f. 1r (upper margin): A note about the manuscript's contents: 'Liber continens Exposiciones Epistolarum et Ewangeliorum'; added in the (?) 14th century.
f. 1r (paper pastedown): A title inscription: 'Haimonis Homiliarum hoc esse existimo [etc.]'; written in the late 16th century.
f. 206v: Excerpts of the Lamentations of Jeremiah, beginning: '[Alech] Quomodo sedet sola civitas plena populo; facta est quasi vidua domina gentium; princeps provinciarum facta est sub tributo'; written in the 12th century.
f. 206v: Excerpts of Augustine, Enarrationes in Psalmos, beginning: 'Exaudi, Deus, orationem meam, dum tribulor'; written in the 12th century.
ff. 207r-207v: Leaf from an English or Continental Missal with text in Anglo-Saxon minuscule and neumes; written in the late 11th century.
Decoration:
Initials in red or, occasionally, in brown, some with penwork decoration or a reserved line. Rubrics in red. Abstract and foliate motifs in crayon (f. 62r).

Dimensions: 340 x 220 mm (text space: 275 x 150 mm).
Foliation: ff. 1* + 207 (+ 3 unfoliated paper flyleaves at the beginning + 4 at the end); ff. 1* and 207 are from earlier manuscripts.
Collation: Each quire has been mounted separately onto a paper guard.
Script: Protogothic (ampersands; ae caudatas).
Binding: British Museum in-house; red half leather with the Harleian arms gold stamped on the outside covers; rebound on 17 January 1967.

Provenance:
Sir Simonds D’Ewes (b. 1602, d. 1650), 1st baronet, diarist, antiquary, and friend of Sir Robert Cotton: recorded in his catalogues as A.205 and B.53; his number '50' inscribed on f. 1r (see Watson, The Library of Sir Simonds D'Ewes (1966), pp. 120-121; Wright, Fontes Harleiani (1972), p. 131).
Sir Simonds D’Ewes (d. 1722), 3rd baronet and grandson of the former: inherited and later sold the D’Ewes library to Robert Harley on 4 October 1705 for £450; according to a receipt in Additional MS 70478 (Portland Papers) [formerly Loan 29/254 packet 2] (see Watson, The Library of Sir Simonds D’Ewes (1966), pp. 60, 91 n. 308; Diary, ed. by Wright and Wright (1966), p. xviii n. 3).
The Harley Collection, formed by Robert Harley (b. 1661, d. 1724), 1st earl of Oxford and Mortimer, politician, and Edward Harley (b. 1689, d. 1741), 2nd earl of Oxford and Mortimer, book collector and patron of the arts.
Edward Harley bequeathed the library to his widow, Henrietta Cavendish, née Holles (b. 1694, d. 1755) during her lifetime and thereafter to their daughter, Margaret Cavendish Bentinck (b. 1715, d. 1785), duchess of Portland; the manuscripts were sold by the Countess and the Duchess in 1753 to the nation for £10,000 (a fraction of their contemporary value) under the Act of Parliament that also established the British Museum; the Harley manuscripts form one of the foundation collections of the British Library.
