Records of Court Baron, view of frankpledge, etc of the manor of Burghlion in Gedney, Lincolnshire. Property of Sir Rogers Manners; renewed by Richard Lanham, steward. Covers the period 1577-1617. In several hands. Chiefly Latin text, but ff. 110v-114v are English (in a different hand).
f. 1 header: ‘Gedney Burghlion’. Inscription: ‘Liber Curiarum Manerij sive Feodi vocati Burghlion in Gedney in partibus de Holland in Com. Lincoln. Percell. Possessionum Rogeri Manners Armigeri; renovatus per Richardum Lanham Seneschallum ibidem, 9 die Julij, anno regni D[omi]ne R[egi]ne Elizabethe, &c. decimo nono'.
Vellum strips from previous binding pasted onto f. 1, including one inscribed ‘Nov. 1661 Bought of Mr Benson’.

The Harley Collection, formed by Robert Harley (1661-1724), 1st earl of Oxford and Mortimer, politician, and Edward Harley (1689-1741), 2nd earl of Oxford and Mortimer, book collector and patron of the arts.
Edward Harley bequeathed the library to his widow, Henrietta Cavendish, née Holles (1694-1755) during her lifetime and thereafter to their daughter, Margaret Cavendish Bentinck (1715-1785), duchess of Portland; the manuscripts were sold by the Countess and the Duchess in 1753 to the nation for £10,000 (a fraction of their contemporary value) under the Act of Parliament that also established the British Museum; the Harley manuscripts form one of the foundation collections of the British Library.Former owner: Edward Stillingfleet (1635-1688), Bishop of Worcester.
