Folio manuscript volume containing an autograph rough copy of Persecutionis Catholicorum Anglicanae et Conjuratonis Presbiterianae Hystoria or History of the English Persecution of Catholics and of the Presbyterian Plot, by Father John Warner, S.J., Chaplain to King James II.
The manuscript is split into 8 'books' and largely concentrates on the period from 1678 to 1685.
On ff. 1-1v is a letter from John Hartstonge, Chaplain to the Duke of Ormonde to Reverend Dr Tennison, [Thomas Tenison, Archbishop of Canterbury?], which reads 'Revd. Sr. Ormond house ye 21 of Ap. The Bearer hereof is owner of the Manuscript I left with you; which you may with safety deliver to him. I am your Obliged humble servant, John Hartstonge'.
On ff. 90v-91 are brief records of letters received concerning the manuscript, and expenses.

This manuscript previously belonged to Edward Stillingfleet.
The Harley Collection, formed by Robert Harley (1661-1724), 1st earl of Oxford and Mortimer, politician, and Edward Harley (1689-1741), 2nd earl of Oxford and Mortimer, book collector and patron of the arts.
Edward Harley bequeathed the library to his widow, Henrietta Cavendish, née Holles (1694-1755) during her lifetime and thereafter to their daughter, Margaret Cavendish Bentinck (1715-1785), duchess of Portland; the manuscripts were sold by the Countess and the Duchess in 1753 to the nation for £10,000 under the Act of Parliament that also established the British Museum; the Harley manuscripts form one of the foundation collections of the British Library.
