Decoration:
Large initials in gold with foliate decoration in colours and a partial border at the beginning of Psalms 1, 26, 38, 52, 68, 80, 97, 109 (ff. 7r, 26v, 39v, 51r, 62v, 77r, 90r, 104v). Large initial in red and blue with red penwork decoration and pen-flourishing at the beginning of Psalm 101 (f. 92r). Large initials in blue with red penwork decoration, often in the form of leaves or sometimes faces or heads, and red pen-flourishing. Small intials in red or blue. Line-filler in green (f. 46r). From ff. 159-186, initials in red, some with brown or brown and red penwork decoration. Line-fillers in red. Descender decorated in red and brown (f. 174r).

Provenance:
The parish church of Hitchin, Herfordshire: dedication of the church in the calendar for 17 May (f. 3r).The Harley Collection, formed by Robert Harley (b. 1661, d. 1724), 1st earl of Oxford and Mortimer, politician, and Edward Harley (b. 1689, d. 1741), 2nd earl of Oxford and Mortimer, book collector and patron of the arts. Edward Harley bequeathed the library to his widow, Henrietta Cavendish, née Holles (b. 1694, d. 1755) during her lifetime and thereafter to their daughter, Margaret Cavendish Bentinck (b. 1715, d.1785), duchess of Portland; the manuscripts were sold by the Countess and the Duchess in 1753 to the nation for £10,000 (a fraction of their contemporary value) under the Act of Parliament that also established the British Museum; the Harley manuscripts form one of the foundation collections of the British Library.
