ff. 11v-16r: Certain ordinances made 15 May 15.Hen.VIII, at the Friars, Greenwich, signed by the Officers at Arms, concerning fees, gifts, wages or pensions, etc.
f. 13-15: Order of battle in time of war (diagram); descriptions of King Arthur’s six banners; size and lengths of standards, banners, penons and guidons; ordering of persons of estate by degree, ordering of ladies of estate by degree; a brief sentence on the wealth of France; a list of the chancellors of England from the time of the Conquest to Nicholas Health, Archbishop of York, Lord High Chancellor 1555–1558; arms of various families in blazon.
ff. 16v-18: Lists of ancient English earls with arms in blazon.
ff. 19-32: Arms and pedigrees of Berkshire families, about 1584. Includes lists of market towns and religious houses, and their valuation as made at the time of the Dissolution. With an index (f. 32v).
ff. 33-49: Visitation of the County Palatine of Durham 1615, by Sir Richard St George, Norroy with Henry St George, Blue-mantle. Most of the arms in this copy are in blazon. Includes a list of those disclaimed at the time of the Visitation, and arms in the old Visitation of 1575 by William Flower, Norroy and Robert Glover, Portcullis, described in blazon. With an alphabetical index of surnames (ff. 46-49).

The Harley Collection, formed by Robert Harley (1661-1724), 1st earl of Oxford and Mortimer, politician, and Edward Harley (1689-1741), 2nd earl of Oxford and Mortimer, book collector and patron of the arts. ...
Edward Harley bequeathed the library to his widow, Henrietta Cavendish, née Holles (1694-1755) during her lifetime and thereafter to their daughter, Margaret Cavendish Bentinck (1715-1785), duchess of Portland; the manuscripts were sold by the Countess and the Duchess in 1753 to the nation for £10,000 (a fraction of their contemporary value) under the Act of Parliament that also established the British Museum; the Harley manuscripts form one of the foundation collections of the British Library.
Former owner: William Shires, arms painter of Southwark (Wright, Fontes Harleiani, p. 304).
