ff. 95r-105v: Coats of arms of the Lincolnshire nobility and gentry (12 per page), mostly without their names.

ff. 106r-107r: Pedigrees of ‘Dymok’ and ‘Goodericke’ of Bolingbroke, Lincolnshire.

ff. 108r-108v: An alphabetical index of surnames of the families included in this manuscript.

Foliation: ff. 1* + 108 (+ 2 unfoliated paper flyleaves at the beginning + 3 at the end); 1 unfoliated leather cutting (containing a gold-stamped armorial bookplate) on f. 1*recto; each leaf has been mounted onto a paper guard and has a white paper strip attached to its outer margin.

Provenance:

Henry Chitting (b. 1580, d. 1638), Chester Herald (1618), owned the manuscript: his armorial bookplate and initials ‘H. C.’ on f. 1*recto (see Wright, Fontes Harleiani (1972), p. 104).

William Shires (fl. c. 1711), arms painter of Southwark: probably part of a parcel of books bought by Harley of Shires on 11 July 1711 (see Wright, Fontes Harleiani (1972), p. 304).

The Harley Collection, formed by Robert Harley (b. 1661, d. 1724), 1st earl of Oxford and Mortimer, politician, and Edward Harley (b. 1689, d. 1741), 2nd earl of Oxford and Mortimer, book collector and patron of the arts.

Edward Harley bequeathed the library to his widow, Henrietta Cavendish, née Holles (b. 1694, d. 1755) during her lifetime and thereafter to their daughter, Margaret Cavendish Bentinck (b. 1715, d.1785), duchess of Portland; the manuscripts were sold by the Countess and the Duchess in 1753 to the nation for £10,000 (a fraction of their contemporary value) under the Act of Parliament that also established the British Museum; the Harley manuscripts form one of the foundation collections of the British Library.
