ff. 1r-6r: A copy of the testament of John Rudston (b. 1480, d. 1531), Lord Mayor of London in 1528-1529, dated 1530.
ff. 7v-13v: The ‘bying of pewkes and blakes Clothes for gownes whiche were gevyn And bequethede be Sir John Rudstone late knyght And Alderman of London whiche disceased from thys transutory lyfe the xxiij the daye of Auguste Anno Dicto [1531]’.
ff. 14r-16r: The ‘blake ffreise that was bowght in bartylmewe ffeyre for to make gownes for Torche berers accordyng to the wylle of Sir John Rudestone disceased’.
ff. 14v-18v: The ‘Costes and Charges done at the bewryall of Sir John Rudstone late mayer and Alderman of London the xxvijth daye of August in the yere above said at the drapers hall for the Companye of the drapers where the mayer shrevys and serten Aldermen were there at tthe said potacyon and dyner'.

Provenance:
Nicholas Rudston, family of Sir John Rudston [Rudstone] (b. 1480, d. 1531): his signatures on ff. 44r, 48v-52v (see Wright, Fontes Harleiani (1972), p. 290).
Kennett White (b. 1600, d. 1728), Dean of Peterborough (1708-1718); Bishop of Peterborough (1718-1728), owned in or before 1718: according to Humfrey Wanley’s note on f. [iv]recto; ‘Mr Dean of Peterburgh’; and his catalogue record in A Catalogue of the Harleian Manuscripts (1808), I, p. 614: ‘A paper Book in fol. given by the Reverend Dr. White Kennett, now Dean of Peterborough’ (see Wright, Fontes Harleiani (1972), p. 209).
The Harley Collection, formed by Robert Harley (b. 1661, d. 1724), 1st earl of Oxford and Mortimer, politician, and Edward Harley (b. 1689, d. 1741), 2nd earl of Oxford and Mortimer, book collector and patron of the arts.
Edward Harley bequeathed the library to his widow, Henrietta Cavendish, née Holles (b. 1694, d. 1755) during her lifetime and thereafter to their daughter, Margaret Cavendish Bentinck (b. 1715, d. 1785), duchess of Portland; the manuscripts were sold by the Countess and the Duchess in 1753 to the nation for £10,000 (a fraction of their contemporary value) under the Act of Parliament that also established the British Museum; the Harley manuscripts form one of the foundation collections of the British Library.
