Extracts from late 13th century plea rolls. With some accounts relating to service in Cromwell’s army. Contents:
ff. 1-2: Records of movements of horses.
f. 4r: Accounts of money received for service in a regiment.
f. 3v: Note dated December 1659 explaining source of following folios (ff. 4-48)
ff. 4-48: Extracts from the rolls of the Common Pleas, 1-13. Edw. I. Transcribed December 1654.
At the other end of the volume:
f. 48: Notes of precedents from Rot. de Litteris Missis, Michaelmas Term, 24. Edw. I, showing that those in service defending the sea coasts might not be obliged to appear before the Kings Justices.
ff. 49-52: Particulars of money paid to officers of various regiments, to defray costs of raising and transporting recruits for Ireland. Dated January 1650 - April 1651.

The Harley Collection, formed by Robert Harley (1661-1724), 1st earl of Oxford and Mortimer, politician, and Edward Harley (1689-1741), 2nd earl of Oxford and Mortimer, book collector and patron of the arts.
Edward Harley bequeathed the library to his widow, Henrietta Cavendish, née Holles (1694-1755) during her lifetime and thereafter to their daughter, Margaret Cavendish Bentinck (1715-1785), duchess of Portland; the manuscripts were sold by the Countess and the Duchess in 1753 to the nation for £10,000 (a fraction of their contemporary value) under the Act of Parliament that also established the British Museum; the Harley manuscripts form one of the foundation collections of the British Library.
Former owner: Henry Worsley, Governor of Barbados (d. 1747) (Wright, Fontes Harleiani, p. 360).
