Quarto manuscript volume containing what was originally three books of notes taken from sermons preached by Edmund Calamy the elder, Presbyterian church leader and divine.
The first book is titled 'Liber D: D:D' and contains notes from two sermons: 'Mathew 6:2323 The Single Eye' and 'Luke 8:18. Of Hearing God's word'.
The second book is titled 'Liber E: E:E' and contains notes from four sermons: 'Corinthians 1:11:30. punishment of unworthy receiving etc', 'John: 6:56. Comfort of worthy receivers', 'Canticles 1:2. The kisses of Christ' and ' Exodus 13:21.22. The Piller of Cloud etc'. This book is dated 1650.
The third book is titled 'Liber. G:G:' and contains notes from two sermons: 'Numbers 21: 6,7,8 and 9, concerning the brazen serpent' and 'John: 3:14.15 Christ lifted up etc'.

The Harley Collection, formed by Robert Harley (1661-1724), 1st earl of Oxford and Mortimer, politician, and Edward Harley (1689-1741), 2nd earl of Oxford and Mortimer, book collector and patron of the arts.
Edward Harley bequeathed the library to his widow, Henrietta Cavendish, née Holles (1694-1755) during her lifetime and thereafter to their daughter, Margaret Cavendish Bentinck (1715-1785), duchess of Portland; the manuscripts were sold by the Countess and the Duchess in 1753 to the nation for £10,000 under the Act of Parliament that also established the British Museum; the Harley manuscripts form one of the foundation collections of the British Library.
