Genealogical manuscript bound in crimson velvet with silver clasps and gilt edges, written in Spanish. Two main parts: ff. 126 written in a larger and plainer hand on vellum; ff. 27-98 written on paper.
f. 1: Portrait of Ignatius Loyala, standing in a rocky landscape, in a black habit and cloak, with his armour lying on the ground beside him. In his right hand he holds a short staff with the Jesuit Christogram, and rests his left hand on an open volume inscribed ‘Ad maiorem Dei gloriam. Constitutiones Socetatis Iesu’. Paint on vellum.
f. 2: Escutcheon quartered with the arms of the families of Ynchaurandieta, Maquibar, Lecuona and Elizondo. Paint on vellum.
ff. 2v-26: Historical account of the rise and progress of the four families and their marriages, by Don Francisco de Morales Zarco, historiographer and king of arms to King Charles II of Spain, dated 20 October 1697. Account drawn up to certify the families’ merits and the excellency of their arms. Decorated with painted coats of arms (ff. 12, 17v, 21v, 24), signed by Don Francisco with his seal of office (f. 25v), and attested by several other officers (f. 26).
ff. 27-96: A plea of process of descent, nobility and gentry and blood, by Sebastian de Azcue Aranguren, neighbour in the valley of Oyarzun, Province of Guipuzcoa in Biscay, as husband of Maria-Martin de Ynchaurandietta, sister to captain Don Ignatio de Ynchaurandietta, on his behalf, during his absence in the Indies; for his admittance into the order or the gentry, and consequently capable of bearing civil or military office in the province. Transcript from the registers signed and authenticated by the proper officers, November and December, 1697. Besides witness testimonies, includes extracts from public records, royal grants and charters of privileges made to the province.
ff. 97-98: The original confirmation of Guipuzcoa province; with the seal and hand ‘Per mandado de la Junta’ of Don Phelipe de Aguirre their scribe (mentioned earlier in the volume at 92v), followed by the grant of an augmentation to the arms of the province of Guipuzcoa by Juana Queen of Spain, dated 28 February 1513, with the seal of the province affixed.

The Harley Collection, formed by Robert Harley (1661-1724), 1st earl of Oxford and Mortimer, politician, and Edward Harley (1689-1741), 2nd earl of Oxford and Mortimer, book collector and patron of the arts.
Edward Harley bequeathed the library to his widow, Henrietta Cavendish, née Holles (1694-1755) during her lifetime and thereafter to their daughter, Margaret Cavendish Bentinck (1715-1785), duchess of Portland; the manuscripts were sold by the Countess and the Duchess in 1753 to the nation for £10,000 under the Act of Parliament that also established the British Museum; the Harley manuscripts form one of the foundation collections of the British Library.
