f. 7r: A title-page: ‘The visitacion of the Countie of Lancastre made by William fflower Esquire alias Norroy kinge of Armes: Anno Domini .1567.’.
ff. 8r-104v: A copy of the Visitation Book of Lancastershire by William Flower (b. 1497/8, d. 1588), Norroy King of Arms, in 1567; tricked by Robert Glover (b. 1543/1544, d. 1588), Herald of Somerset, according to the Catalogue of the Harleian Manuscripts, II (1808), p. 457; with additions and continuations by different hands.
The manuscript contains several later additions:
f. 1*verso: A memorandum (on a parchment pastedown) by Richard Thompson, dated to 10 January 1666; with the names of Thomas Browne and Daniell Leigh as (?) witnesses below it (on a separate piece of parchment).
ff. 1r-2r: A ‘table of the Coates in this booke’.
ff. 2v-5v: A ‘table of all the Places mentioned in all the Pedegrees and Matches which are in this booke’; added by Randle Holme (also mentioned on f. 1*verso), according to Catalogue of the Harleian Manuscripts, II (1808), p. 457.
ff. 105r-108v: A ‘table of all the Names or Surnames contained in the Matches of the [...] all pedegrees within this booke’; added in the 17th century.
Decoration:
Coats of arms and crests, tricked, drawn in black ink throughout the manuscript. Relationship lines in genealogies in red ink.

? Randle Holme I (b. 1571, d. 1655), owned in 1666: added the table on ff. 2v-5v according to the Catalogue of the Harleian Manuscripts, II (1808), p. 457 (not listed under his entry in Wright, Fontes Harleiani (1972), pp. 194-95).
? ‘Richard Thompson’, owned in 1666: his memorandum signed with his name on a parchment pastedown on f. 1*verso (not in Wright, Fontes Harleiani (1972)).
The Harley Collection, formed by Robert Harley (b. 1661, d. 1724), 1st earl of Oxford and Mortimer, politician, and Edward Harley (b. 1689, d. 1741), 2nd earl of Oxford and Mortimer, book collector and patron of the arts.
Edward Harley bequeathed the library to his widow, Henrietta Cavendish, née Holles (b. 1694, d. 1755) during her lifetime and thereafter to their daughter, Margaret Cavendish Bentinck (b. 1715, d. 1785), duchess of Portland; the manuscripts were sold by the Countess and the Duchess in 1753 to the nation for £10,000 (a fraction of their contemporary value) under the Act of Parliament that also established the British Museum; the Harley manuscripts form one of the foundation collections of the British Library.
