Materials: Paper.
Dimensions: 300 x 210 (text space: 265-270 x 150 mm).
Foliation: ff. 39 (+ 4 unfoliated blank paper flyleaves at the beginning + 4 at the end); 5 blank paper leaves between f. 38 and f. 39, only counted in the old foliation; 1 unfoliated paper pastedown on f. 1r; the manuscript only features early modern foliation in brown ink throughout, except for the end, where the 5 leaves after f. 38 are not counted in the modern foliation, and the old f. '44' is crossed out with pencil and renumbered as f. 39; this modern (British Museum) foliation is followed here.
Collation: Mounted as quires and single leaves.
Script: 16th-century script.
Binding: British Museum in-house: brown half leather binding with the Harleian armorial bookplate gold-stamped on the outside covers; re-bound on 28 September 1966; the previous binding (blind-stamped and gold-tooled brown speckled leather) has been pasted on the insides of the upper and lower covers.

Boxgrove, Sussex.
Provenance:
Owen Lording, Protestant parish priest of Boxgrove, Sussex, copied for him in they year 1600 by George Stent, a local notary: according to a note pasted on f. 1r: 'Golde hill in [hampshone] Sussex / Owin Loridnge of Boxgrove disiringe it. February 13, 1600 at the howre of 7 a clocke the afternone beinge friday George Stent present' (see Klaassen, Making Magic (2019), p. 73).
The Harley Collection, formed by Robert Harley (b. 1661, d. 1724), 1st earl of Oxford and Mortimer, politician, and Edward Harley (b. 1689, d. 1741), 2nd earl of Oxford and Mortimer, book collector and patron of the arts.
Edward Harley bequeathed the library to his widow, Henrietta Cavendish, née Holles (b. 1694, d. 1755) during her lifetime and thereafter to their daughter, Margaret Cavendish Bentinck (b. 1715, d. 1785), duchess of Portland; the manuscripts were sold by the Countess and the Duchess in 1753 to the nation for £10,000 (a fraction of their contemporary value) under the Act of Parliament that also established the British Museum; the Harley manuscripts form one of the foundation collections of the British Library.
