Vita Adae et Evae; Tractatus metricus penitentia; Richard Horton, Confessional formulary; Bernard of Clairvaux, De diligendo deo; Hugh of Saint-Victor, De tribus diebus; Tria sunt; Smaragdus, Diadema monachorum, and other theological works
- Scope & Content:
-
This manuscript contains a collection of theological works that were copied by 'Richard Horton' in the 15th century. The larger part of the manuscript contains hitherto unknown copies of a guide on Latin prose and poetry known as Tria sunt, based on Geoffrey of Vinsauf's Documentum de modo et arte dictandi et versificandi [see Camargo, 'Tria sunt' (1999), 935-55], and Smaragdus's Diadema monachorum.
The manuscript also features a theological compilation and a confessional formulary that are attributed to a 'Ricardus Hortone' (ff. 3r, 31v, 35v). This may be the same Richard Horton who was prior of the Benedictine priory of Bromfield, Shropshire, in 1424.
Contents:
