ff. 1r-459v: Bible (with Psalms), imperfect: missing the beginning of the prologue to Genesis.
ff. 460r-470v: Interpretation of Hebrew Names, organised alphabetically; imperfect (only covers 'A' - 'C').
The manuscript contains various additions:
Copiously annotated (especially in the New Testament), and manicula: 13th and 14th century.
ff. 471r-471v: A text to complete the Interpretation of Hebrew Names (letter 'D' only): added in(?) 15th century.
f. 472r: Sayings in Latin; added in the 17th century.
f. 472r: A reference to the Johannine Epistles and Cyprian's De Ecclesiae Catholicae Unitate (On the Unity of the Catholic Church): 'Vid. Prol. in canonicas epistolas de 1 Joh. 5. 7. vid. cyprian. edidit . oxon. de unit. ecclia. p. 109'; added in the 17th century.
f. 473r: A list of biblical books with their numbers of chapters; added in the (?) 15th century.

Decoration:
Large initials in colours and silver with foliate decoration, enclosing or formed by zoomorphic or hybrid creatures at the beginning of each book (f. 163r: a dog playing the harp). Large puzzle initials in red and blue with pen-flourishing in the same colours mark the beginning of the prologues. Smaller initials in red or blue with pen-flourishing in the other colour. Capitals higlighted in red. Chapter numbers and running titles in alternating red and blue. Capitals marked with red ink.

Foliation: ff. 474 (+ 1 unfoliated paper flyleaf and 1 parchment flyleaf at the beginning + 1 unfoliated paper flyleaf at the end); 1 unfoliated torn paper leaf between f. 473 and f. 474 (f. [473a]); f. 474 is a parchment leaf that has been pasted together with a paper leaf.
Script: Gothic, written below the top line.

Provenance:
'Thomas', 15th or 16th century: their erased ownership inscription on f. 474r: 'Lib[er] d[omi]ni Thome ?l[..]ck [...]'.
‘H. Alman’, (?) 17th century: inscribed 'Sic dixit ?H Alman' on f. 472r (not in Wright, Fontes Harleiani (1972).
'Tho. Hu:' owner until 1659: his name in an inscription on f. 1r [see transcription below] (see Wright, Fontes Harleiani (1972), p. 200).
John Covel (b. 1638, d. 1722), chaplain of the Levant Company at Constantinople 1670-1676: inscribed in 1659 on f. 1r: 'Joh[ann]es Covel [Chris]ti Coll[egi] Soc. 1659 mnemosuion [in Greek] Tho: Hu:’; the number inscribed on f. [ii]recto (‘No. XXVI’) corresponds to John Covel's numbering system in his catalogue (Additional MS 22911, ff. 180r-183r) where this manuscript is no. 26 in the Latin section; sold, together with Covel's other manuscripts, to Edward Harley for £300 on 27 Feb. 1715/6 (Diary, ed. by Wright and Wright (1966), I, pp. xxxiv-xxxvi; II, p. 211 n. 1; Wright, Fontes Harleiani (1972), pp. 113-14).
The Harley Collection, formed by Robert Harley (b. 1661, d. 1724), 1st earl of Oxford and Mortimer, politician, and Edward Harley (b. 1689, d. 1741), 2nd earl of Oxford and Mortimer, book collector and patron of the arts.
Edward Harley bequeathed the library to his widow, Henrietta Cavendish, née Holles (b. 1694, d. 1755) during her lifetime and thereafter to their daughter, Margaret Cavendish Bentinck (b. 1715, d.1785), duchess of Portland; the manuscripts were sold by the Countess and the Duchess in 1753 to the nation for £10,000 (a fraction of their contemporary value) under the Act of Parliament that also established the British Museum; the Harley manuscripts form one of the foundation collections of the British Library.
