This composite manuscript consists of two parts.
Part 1 (ff. 2-271) is a Book of Hours made in the Southern Netherlands for the English market between c. 1460 and c. 1470.
Part 2 (ff. 272v-277r) is a letter by Augustine against the Manichaeans that was copied in England in 1554.

Unidentified original owner: their overpainted arms on ff. 45r and 68r.
Unidentified (?) 16th century owner: their erased ownership inscription on f. 1r.
Edward (b. c. 1504, d. 1564) 1st baron North, the son of a London merchant, by 1554: inscribed with his name 'Edwardus : Dominus : North', partly with his motto 'Serva Fidem', and his arms, added in spaces and painted over those of the original owner on ff. 45r, 68r, 99r, 111r, 137v, 151v, 271r, 277r (see Wright, Fontes Harleiani (1972), p. 258).
The Harley Collection, formed by Robert Harley (b. 1661, d. 1724), 1st earl of Oxford and Mortimer, politician, and Edward Harley (b. 1689, d. 1741), 2nd earl of Oxford and Mortimer, book collector and patron of the arts. Edward Harley bequeathed the library to his widow, Henrietta Cavendish, née Holles (b. 1694, d. 1755) during her lifetime and thereafter to their daughter, Margaret Cavendish Bentinck (b. 1715, d.1785), duchess of Portland; the manuscripts were sold by the Countess and the Duchess in 1753 to the nation for £10,000 (a fraction of their contemporary value) under the Act of Parliament that also established the British Museum; the Harley manuscripts form one of the foundation collections of the British Library.
