This is a composite manuscript, consisting of two parts that were produced separately in the 12th century.
The first part (ff. 1r-60v), produced in the 1st half of the 12th century, contains Caesarius of Arles (b. 469/70, d. 542), De igne purgatorio (On the Fire of Purgatory), and an imperfect copy of Isidore of Seville (b. 560, d. 636), Etymologiae (Etymologies).
The second part (ff. 61r-76v), produced in the 2nd half of the 12th century, contains an unidentified theological text.

ff. 2v-60v: Isidore of Seville, Etymologiae (books 6-10); imperfect.
ff. 61r-76v: An unidentified theological exposition.
The manuscript contains a few additions:
ff. 2r-3v: Marginal annotations in which numbers in Roman numerals in the Etymologiae are written out in Latin (e.g. 'trecenti quinquaginta quatuor'); added in the 14th/15th century.
ff. 4r, 5r, 5v, 6r, 7r, 8r: Notes highlighting subjects relating to the liturgy and the sacerdotal office (e.g. 'nota bene de missa', 'de chore', 'sacrificum de corpore Christi' and 'de confessio') in Book 6 of the Etymologiae; added in the 15th century.
Decoration:
Large and smaller initials in red, frequently with penwork decoration. Simple initials in red. Display script in brown ink. Rubrics in red. The added text on ff. 61r-76v features paraphs that occasionally include animal heads or foliate motifs.

Provenance:
The Harley Collection, formed by Robert Harley (b. 1661, d. 1724), 1st earl of Oxford and Mortimer, politician, and Edward Harley (b. 1689, d. 1741), 2nd earl of Oxford and Mortimer, book collector and patron of the arts.
Edward Harley bequeathed the library to his widow, Henrietta Cavendish, née Holles (b. 1694, d. 1755) during her lifetime and thereafter to their daughter, Margaret Cavendish Bentinck (b. 1715, d. 1785), duchess of Portland; the manuscripts were sold by the Countess and the Duchess in 1753 to the nation for £10,000 (a fraction of their contemporary value) under the Act of Parliament that also established the British Museum; the Harley manuscripts form one of the foundation collections of the British Library.
