This manuscript consists of two commentaries on the Pauline epistles written respectively by Origen (b. c. 185, d. c. 254) and St Jerome (b. c. 347, d. 420). This volume was produced in the 2nd half of the 11th century in Western Germany, perhaps Paderborn.
Fragments from a 9th-century text of extracts from a canonical collection made in Eastern France, featuring remains of a 15th-century Latin text on divorce, have been used as pastedowns and flyleaves (ff. 1-2; 231-232).
Contents:
ff. 3v-181v: Origen, Super epistolam Pauli ad Romanos (Commentary on Paul's Letter to the Romans); translated by Rufinus of Aquileia (b. c. 345, d. 411).
ff. 182r-230r: St Jerome, Commentariorum In epistolam Pauli ad Ephesios (Commentary on St Paul's epistle to Ephesians).

Dimensions: 325 x 215 mm (text space: 250 x 175 mm, in two columns).
Foliation: ff. 232 (+ 2 unfoliated paper flyleaves at the beginning + 3 at the end); ff. 1, 232 are lifted pastedowns; ff. 2, 231 probably served as flyleaves; f. 1 includes another pastedown from a 15th-century manuscript.
Script: Late Caroline minuscule, written by 6 scribes, the main part is written by 5 scribes from Paderborn, the 6th (ff. 222r-230r) from Helmarshausen in Germany, according to Hoffmann, Bücher und Urkunden (1992).

An unknown 13th- or 14th-century owner: added the title 'Origenes super epistola Pauli ad Romanos a Rufino [...]' (f. 3r).
An unknown (?) 15th-century owner: added, perhaps in the 15th century, leaves from a 9th-century manuscript used as pastedowns and flyleaves (ff. 1-2; 231-232), f. 1 includes an excerpt from a 15th-century manuscript.
The Cathedral Library, Paderborn: recorded in the Library's catalogue of 1672 as 'Origines super Epistolas s. Pauli in perg.' (see Hoffmann, Bücher und Urkunden (1992), p. 28).
Nathaniel Noel (fl. 1681, d. c. 1753), bookseller, employed by Edward Harley for buying books and manuscripts chiefly on the Continent, where his agent was George Suttie (Wright, Fontes Harleiani (1972); Watson, 'An Early Thirteenth-Century Low Countries Booklist' (1981), p. 43).
The Harley Collection, formed by Robert Harley (b. 1661, d. 1724), 1st earl of Oxford and Mortimer, politician, and Edward Harley (b. 1689, d. 1741), 2nd earl of Oxford and Mortimer, book collector and patron of the arts, inscribed by their librarian, Humfrey Wanley ‘Dominus meus coemit codicem a Nath. Noel A.D. 1716’ (f. 1r).
Edward Harley bequeathed the library to his widow, Henrietta Cavendish, née Holles (b. 1694, d. 1755) during her lifetime and thereafter to their daughter, Margaret Cavendish Bentinck (b. 1715, d. 1785), duchess of Portland; the manuscripts were sold by the Countess and the Duchess in 1753 to the nation for £10,000 (a fraction of their contemporary value) under the Act of Parliament that also established the British Museum; the Harley manuscripts form one of the foundation collections of the British Library.
