Contents:
ff. 1r-146v: A collection of sermons, containing some in Middle English ('lovesums lykyng' on f. 2v), and distinctions. Includes the Distincciones Johannes Lathbury or Alphabetum morale (ff. 17r-76v), containing references to Ranulf Higden's Polychronicon.
The manuscript contains a few additions:
f. 136r: List of payments to 'Roberte Coke', 'Richard Teleyr', 'Johannes Halyday', and 'Thomas Fortthe'; added in the 16th century.
f. 145r: Indenture relating to an order to print St Gregory's Dialogi by John Stockton: 'Thys bylle makys mencion that thys ys the bargan betwyes Sir Roberti The Vicar of Hougton and Sir Jon Stokdon for v bokys for certan mone and yf I com with in the yere or send to have towe bokys agane for the sayd mone that ys to saye the dyalogos of stant gregor And thys boke of preseng mater and ellys to fofet my bargan wrytyng in vigel of stancte Austyn […] doctor'; followed by a payment for 'The presse'; added in the 16th century.

Foliation: ff. 146 (+ 2 unfoliated paper flyleaves at the beginning + 2 at the end); ff. 1-3, and 146 are torn paper leaves (with loss of text); the outer upper right corners of ff. 17-33 have been eaten by a (?) rodent, causing some loss of text; 3 unfoliated paper stubs after f. 143.
Script: Gothic cursive.
Binding: Post-1600; blind-stamped and gold-tooled brown speckled leather binding.

The Harley Collection, formed by Robert Harley (b. 1661, d. 1724 ), 1st earl of Oxford and Mortimer, politician, and Edward Harley (b. 1689, d. 1741), 2nd earl of Oxford and Mortimer, book collector and patron of the arts.
Edward Harley bequeathed the library to his widow, Henrietta Cavendish, née Holles (b. 1694, d. 1755) during her lifetime and thereafter to their daughter, Margaret Cavendish Bentinck (b. 1715, d.1785), duchess of Portland; the manuscripts were sold by the Countess and the Duchess in 1753 to the nation for £10,000 (a fraction of their contemporary value) under the Act of Parliament that also established the British Museum; the Harley manuscripts forms one of the foundation collections of the British Library.
