The foliation starts with f. 196, which is a paper flyleaf, and is labelled 'Harley MS 3496, art. 6 (spine, f. [i]).ff. 197-234: Petrarch, Trionfi, written in Florence c. 1480 by Nicolaus Mangona, according to de la Mare, 'New Research' (1985), and her unpublished notes at the Bodleian Library, Oxford.
Decoration: 5 historiated initials in gold and colours of the various triumphs, with partial floral borders in gold and colours (ff. 208v, 212v, 219r, 229r, 231v), attributed to Francesco d'Antonio del Chierico. 8 smaller decorated initials in gold on coloured panels; 1 at the beginning of each chapter (ff. 199r, 202r, 205v, 212r, 215v, 221v, 224r, 227r). Numerous small initials in alternating gold and blue at each tercet. Incipits in gold.

Written in Florence c. 1480 by Nicolaus Mangona.Conyers Middleton (b. 1683, d. 1750), Fellow of Trinity College, Cambridge from 1706, head librarian of the University Library at Cambridge (1721-50); sold to Harley on 25th February 1724/5 (see Wright, Fontes (1972); Wright and Wright, Diary (1966)).The Harley Collection, formed by Robert Harley (b. 1661, d. 1724), 1st earl of Oxford and Mortimer, politician, and Edward Harley (b. 1689, d. 1741), 2nd earl of Oxford and Mortimer, book collector and patron of the arts, inscribed as usual by their librarian, Humfrey Wanley ‘25 die mensis Februarij , A.D. 1724/5’ (f. 196r). Edward Harley bequeathed the library to his widow, Henrietta Cavendish, née Holles (b. 1694, d. 1755) during her lifetime and thereafter to their daughter, Margaret Cavendish Bentinck (b. 1715, d. 1785), duchess of Portland; the manuscripts were sold by the Countess and the Duchess in 1753 to the nation for £10,000 (a fraction of their contemporary value) under the Act of Parliament that also established the British Museum; the Harley manuscripts form one of the foundation collections of the British Library.
