Dimensions: 205 x 145 mm (text space: ff. 2r-36r: 125 x 100 mm; ff. 37r-39v: 140 x 100 mm; ff. 41r-156v: 150/170 x 105/110 mm).
Foliation: viii + 156 (all unfoliated flyleaves are modern paper leaves; ff. 1r-1v are two separate paper leaves pasted on a modern paper leaf). Old foliation in ink in Roman numerals 'iii-xxxviii' (ff. 2r-36r), old foliation in ink in Arabic numerals '2-158' (omits no. 11 and includes no. 42 for an unfoliated blank leaf after f. 41) supplemented by a modern foliation in pencil (ff. 1-156).
Layout: One column.
Script: Cursive. Written by several scribes.
Binding: British Museum/British Library binding. Rebound in 1964.

Provenance:
Samuel Knott (d. 1687), Rector of Combe Raleigh, co. Devon, and priest of Broad Hembury, co. Devon: his ownership incription 'Liber Samuelis Kanuti Rectoris de Combe-Rawleigh in Devonia' (f. 2r).
Robert Burscough (or Bourscough) (b. 1651, d. 1709), Church of England clergyman, prebendary of Exeter (1701) and archdeacon of Barnstaple (1703): purchased from him for the Harley collection on 17 May 1715 as recorded by the Harley librerian Humfrey Wanley in his diary (see Diary 1966) and inscription '7 may 1715' (f. 2r)
The Harley Collection, formed by Robert Harley (b. 1661, d. 1724), 1st earl of Oxford and Mortimer, politician, and Edward Harley (b. 1689, d. 1741), 2nd earl of Oxford and Mortimer, book collector and patron of the arts.
Edward Harley bequeathed the library to his widow, Henrietta, née Cavendish Holles (b. 1694, d. 1755) during her lifetime and thereafter to their daughter, Margaret Cavendish Bentinck (b. 1715, d. 1785), duchess of Portland; the manuscripts were sold by the Countess and the Duchess in 1753 to the nation for £10,000 (a fraction of their contemporary value) under the Act of Parliament that also established the British Museum; the Harley manuscripts form one of the foundation collections of the British Library.
