Vertical catchwords.
Ruled in hardpoint.
Unfinished initials showing underdrawing (ff. 12r, 19v).

Decoration:
Full white vine border in colours and gold, inhabited by putti, birds and animals, with a large historiated initial in colours and gold of the wounded Christ, and a portrait of St Nicholas in a roundel in the lower margin (f. 1r). 3 small gold initials on coloured grounds (ff. 3v, 4r, 5r). 27 large white vine initials, 1 at the beginning of each chapter (ff. 5r, 5v, 6v, 7r, 8r, 9r, 9v, 11r, 11v, 12r, 12v, 14r, 14v, 16r, 16v, 17r, 18v, 19r, 19v, 21r, 22r, 22v, 23r, 23v, 24v, 25r, 26r). A blank space has been left for a white vine initial (f. 10), and 2 initials are unfinished (ff. 12r, 19v). Rubrics in red.

Provenance:
John Gibson (fl. 1720-1726), dealer; sold to Harley on 13 September 1722 (see Diary 1966; Wright 1972).
The Harley Collection, formed by Robert Harley (b. 1661, d. 1724), 1st earl of Oxford and Mortimer, politician, and Edward Harley (b. 1689, d. 1741), 2nd earl of Oxford and Mortimer, book collector and patron of the arts, inscribed as usual by their librarian, Humfrey Wanley ‘13 die Septembris 1722’ (f. 1r).
Edward Harley bequeathed the library to his widow, Henrietta Cavendish, née Holles (b. 1694, d. 1755) during her lifetime and thereafter to their daughter, Margaret Cavendish Bentinck (b. 1715, d. 1785), duchess of Portland; the manuscripts were sold by the Countess and the Duchess in 1753 to the nation for £10,000 (a fraction of their contemporary value) under the Act of Parliament that also established the British Museum; the Harley manuscripts form one of the foundation collections of the British Library.
