The index of poems (ff. 1r-8v), first two lines of rubrication on f. 9r, and interlinear and marginal glosses at the beginning of the text supplied by Bartolomeo Sanvito before 1476 (see de la Mare 1999; de la Mare 2002).

6 decorated pages with full-page borders of white-vine leaf and lattice-work surrounding large miniatures (some slightly damaged), depicting Petrarch and Laura (f. 9r), the Triumph of Love (f. 149r), of Chastity (f. 162r), of Death (f. 166r), of Fame (f. 176r) and of Time (f. 184r). Numerous decorated initials in gold and colours.

Cardinal Francesco Gonzaga, c. 1463-1483: his arms, partially effaced (f. 9).

Bartolomeo Sanvito of Padua (b. 1435, d. 1518): contains added marginalia and corrections in his hand, as does Harley 3510 (see Wright 1976).

The Guidotti family of Modena, 16th c. (see Kren, ed. 1983).

Cesare Guidotti, 1544: ownership inscription (f. 1*v).

Nathaniel Noel (fl. 1681, d. c. 1753), bookseller; acquired by him for the Harley Collection.

The Harley Collection, formed by Robert Harley (b. 1661, d. 1724), 1st earl of Oxford and Mortimer, politician, and Edward Harley (b. 1689, d. 1741), 2nd earl of Oxford and Mortimer, book collector and patron of the arts, inscribed as usual by their librarian, Humfrey Wanley ‘18 die Januaij, A.D. 1723/4’ (f. 1*r).

Edward Harley bequeathed the library to his widow, Henrietta Cavendish, née Holles (b. 1694, d. 1755) during her lifetime and thereafter to their daughter, Margaret Cavendish Bentinck (b. 1715, d. 1785), duchess of Portland; the manuscripts were sold by the Countess and the Duchess in 1753 to the nation for £10,000 (a fraction of their contemporary value) under the Act of Parliament that also established the British Museum; the Harley manuscripts form one of the foundation collections of the British Library
