Dimensions: 192 x 137 mm (text space: ff. 2-45: 150 x 85 mm; ff. 46-61: 155 x 110 mm; ff. 62-77: 170 x 115 mm).
Foliation: ff. vii + 77 (The flyleaves include 4 modern paper leaves and 3 parchment leaves). Modern foliation in pencil '1-77' (followed here, including a parchment front flyleaf as f. 1, blank on verso).
Collation: Composite manuscript made up of three codicological units (ff. 2-45, 46-61, 62-77) of different origin. Gatherings: i-iv8, v12, vi-vii8, viii-ix8, numerical leaf signatures on ff. 10r, 18r, 26r, cancelled horizontal catchword on f. 61r.
Layout: Ruled in ink or metal point (single and double vertical bounding lines) for single columns of 31-42 lines. Texts below or above top line.
Script: ff. 2-45: Protogothic; ff. 46-61, 62-77: Gothic. Marginalia partially trimmed away by later binder.
Binding: Harley binding in gilt-lined mottled brown calf with blind- and gilt-tooled decoration on the covers and spine, attributable to Christopher Chapman: rolls used for the front edge and cover decoration identical to Chapman's rolls nos. 3 and 4 reproduced in Howard M. Nixon, 'Harleian Bindings', in Studies in the Book Trade in Honour of Graham Pollard, Bibliographical Society Publications, new series, 18 (Oxford: Bibliographical Society, 1975), pl. 14.

The Benedictine Abbey of St. Peter, Salzburg, Austria: its ex-libris: 'Ex Bibliotheca Monasterij S. Petri Salisburgi', 17th century (ff. 1r, 2r).
Nathaniel Noel (fl. 1681-circa 1753), bookseller, bought from him by by Edward Harley (1689-1741); entered the Harleian collection on 18 Jan. 1723/4, as noted by Harley's librarian, Humfrey Wanley (1672-1726), on f. iii recto: see The Diary 1966 and Wright 1972)
The Harley Collection, formed by Robert Harley (b. 1661, d. 1724), 1st earl of Oxford and Mortimer, politician, and Edward Harley (b. 1689, d. 1741), 2nd earl of Oxford and Mortimer, book collector and patron of the arts.
Edward Harley bequeathed the library to his widow, Henrietta, née Cavendish Holles (b. 1694, d. 1755) during her lifetime and thereafter to their daughter, Margaret Cavendish Bentinck (b. 1715, d. 1785), duchess of Portland; the manuscripts were sold by the Countess and the Duchess in 1753 to the nation for £10,000 (a fraction of their contemporary value) under the Act of Parliament that also established the British Museum; the Harley manuscripts form one of the foundation collections of the British Library. Harley shelfmarks in brown ink '121.B.21 / 3849' and '1/III C' in pencil (f. i recto).
