ff. 1r-62r Geoffrey of Monmouth, Historia regum Britanniae (chronicle to the year 1239), beginning: 'Brittannia insularum optima in occidentali occeano inter gallam et hyberniam sita'.
ff. 62r-107v: Nicholas Trivet, Annales sex regum Angliae qui a comitibus Andegavensibus originem traxerunt (chronicle from Edward I to the year 1307), with the introduction: 'incipiunt gesta temporum Edwardi quarti Regis anglie filii henrici .iii. Qui fuit quintus eorum regum qui a comitibus andegavensibus duxerunt originem secundum lineam masculinam'; and beginning: 'Edwardus Regis Anglorum Henrici tertii ex Alianora filia comitis provincie'.
The manuscript contains a later addition:
f. 108r: A note by Sir Frederic Madden (b. 1801, d. 1873), Keeper of Manuscripts at the British Museum, stating that the manuscript is written in the same hand as an item in Cotton MS Julius D VI.
Decoration:
1 large initial in blue with red pen-flourishing and a zoomorphic motif (f. 1r). Smaller initials in blue with red pen-flourishing or in red with purple or blue pen-flourishing. Paraphs in red or blue. Manicules in brown ink added in the margins. Added drawings in brown ink of a cross (f. 19v); and two men in a boat or on a wall (f. 22v).

Binding: Post-1600. 'Harleian' binding of gold-tooled red leather; marbled endpapers with gold-stamps of the Harleian armorial bookplate.

The Harley Collection, formed by Robert Harley (b. 1661, d. 1724), 1st earl of Oxford and Mortimer, politician, and Edward Harley (b. 1689, d. 1741), 2nd earl of Oxford and Mortimer, book collector and patron of the arts.
Edward Harley bequeathed the library to his widow, Henrietta Cavendish, née Holles (b. 1694, d. 1755) during her lifetime and thereafter to their daughter, Margaret Cavendish Bentinck (b. 1715, d. 1785), duchess of Portland; the manuscripts were sold by the Countess and the Duchess in 1753 to the nation for £10,000 (a fraction of their contemporary value) under the Act of Parliament that also established the British Museum; the Harley manuscripts form one of the foundation collections of the British Library.
