ff. 1r-44r: Attributed to a former clerk, Le roman de Renard le Contrefait branch II (see: Le Roman de Renard le Contrefait, ed. by Gaston Reynaud and Henri Lemaitre, 2 vols (Paris: Honoré Champion, 1914), I, pp. xiii-xiv and pp. 227-97). It includes only excerpts of the parts in prose that are in a universal history.

ff. 62r-66v: Table of contents of the Chroniques de Flandre. Explicit: 'Cy commence listoire des Flandres'.
ff. 67r-175r: Chroniques de Flandre with excerpts of the Grandes chroniques de France, from Charlemagne to 1350.
ff. 176v-184r: Charles V's response to the schedule sent by Edward III, king of England, 21 May 1369. Before an assembly of noble and bourgeois and his council, Charles V, king of France, decided to respond to the schedule sent by Edward III, king of England and to renew hostilities. Beginning: 'Cest la teneur de la bille ou cedulle baillee depar le roy dengleterre ou son conseil aux messagiers dermierement envoies en engleterre par le roy de France'. Ending: 'Par le roy ou son conseil et assemblee tenue a Paris le xxie jour de may de Lan de grace mil .ccc. lxix.'.

Dimensions: 310 x 250 mm (text space: 210 x 190 mm).
Foliation: ff. 184 (+ 1 unfoliated paper and 2 parchment flyleaves at the beginning + 1 unfoliated paper flyleaf at the end).
Script: Gothic bastarde in two columns.
Binding: Post-1600. Brown leather with gold tooling; gilt edges. The covers of a previous binding are pasted inside the present ones.

Provenance:
The Harley Collection, formed by Robert Harley (b. 1661, d. 1724), 1st earl of Oxford and Mortimer, politician, and Edward Harley (b. 1689, d. 1741), 2nd earl of Oxford and Mortimer, book collector and patron of the arts. Edward Harley bequeathed the library to his widow, Henrietta Cavendish, née Holles (b. 1694, d. 1755) during her lifetime and thereafter to their daughter, Margaret Cavendish Bentinck (b. 1715, d. 1785), duchess of Portland; the manuscripts were sold by the Countess and the Duchess in 1753 to the nation for £10,000 (a fraction of their contemporary value) under the Act of Parliament that also established the British Museum; the Harley manuscripts form one of the foundation collections of the British Library.
