ff. 1r-316v: Books I-III of a Latin translation of the Therapeutics [or 'Twelve Books of Medicine'] by the Byzantine physician Alexander of Tralles [Trallianus] (b. c. 525, d. c. 605), here named: 'Alexander Yatros'. Each book is preceded by a table of contents (ff. 1r-4v; ff. 112v-118v; ff. 282r-283v).
The manuscript contains later additions:
f. 1r: A note on the manuscript: 'Hic Alexander Trallianus est ut patet exemplaris Græci et huius praviæ interpretationis'; added in the 17th century.
f. 317r: Medical notes in Latin; added in the 16th century.
Decoration:
Large (3- and 4-line) red initials with minor decoration at the beginning of books (ff. 5r, 118v, 283v). Large (2-line) plain red initials at the beginning of chapters. Rubrics in red. Underlining in red. Paraphs in red.

Collation: Indicated by leaf signatures and vertical catchwords.
Script: Gothic.
Binding: Post-1600; stiff white parchment binding; white paper pastedowns on the inside covers; red speckled fore edge.

Provenance:
The Harley Collection, formed by Robert Harley (b. 1661, d. 1724), 1st earl of Oxford and Mortimer, politician, and Edward Harley (b. 1689, d. 1741), 2nd earl of Oxford and Mortimer, book collector and patron of the arts.
Edward Harley bequeathed the library to his widow, Henrietta Cavendish, née Holles (b. 1694, d. 1755) during her lifetime and thereafter to their daughter, Margaret Cavendish Bentinck (b. 1715, d. 1785), duchess of Portland; the manuscripts were sold by the Countess and the Duchess in 1753 to the nation for £10,000 (a fraction of their contemporary value) under the Act of Parliament that also established the British Museum; the Harley manuscripts form one of the foundation collections of the British Library.
